Dan Krill is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and folk singer. He plays solo-acoustic or in collaboration across SE Wisconsin. Back in grade school, he got his chops playing worship hymns at Sunday services. Simultaneously he wrote and recorded weird songs with found instruments using a 4-track tape recorder. His brothers did the same. Together they collaborated with friends to form various bands influenced by artists such as Pixies, Pavement, and Flaming Lips. All the while, their father, a die-hard Dylan fan, bombarded them with the lyricism of one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
After watching the Coen brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)," Dan was inspired to learn finger-style guitar and immerse himself in the 60's folk revival. Artists such as Woody Guthrie, Cat Stevens, Donovan, Leonard Cohen, and, yes, Bob Dylan helped him write songs that could be played solo-acoustically. And when it was time to record, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Nirvana (unplugged), Sufjan Stevens, Violent Femmes, and all the aforementioned artists came (in spirit) to the studio.
Presently, Dan has over 5 albums of original songs that he performs with a wide network of musician friends. Though he plays guitar, drums, bass, and harmonica, he still loves to collaborate with others. Listen for organ, ukulele, trumpet, washboard, toy piano, mandolin, saxophone, accordion, piano, tuba, banjo, and more!
